U.S. International Trade Commission and Department of Commerce to Investigate Fair Trade of Xanthan Gum

ATLANTA,Georgia,USA – June 5, 2012 – CP Kelco, a division ofthe J. M.Huber Corporation, is filing a petition today with theU.S.Department of Commerce (DOC) and theU.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) urging the investigation of xanthan gumimportsinto theU.S.fromChina and Austria, which are suspected to be sold atsubstantially lessthan fair value.

The petition contains evidence demonstrating that Chinese and Austrian xanthan gumis being sold into theU.S.market at below fair value. “Xanthan gumimports have increased dramatically over the pastseveral years due to what we believe to be unfair pricing practices of Chinese and Austrian producers,” statesJohn Taylor, Vice President Supply Chain and Logisticsfor CP Kelco.

Xanthan gum, discovered in 1959 by theU.S.Department of Agriculture, was commercialized by CP Kelco in 1962 by investing in the world’sfirst commercial production of xanthan gumin SanDiego, California.

“If the investigations determine thattheU.S. industry has been competing against unfairly priced imports, the actionstaken by theDOC and ITC should restore fair competition in theU.S.market and give all domestic producers an opportunity tomaintain and expandU.S. production and jobsin support ofthe customer base,” saidDon Rubright, President of CP Kelco.

With CP Kelco global headquarters, twomanufacturing facilities, two centers of technical excellence, sales offices and customerservice centersin theUnited States, supporting these efforts emphasizes the company’s commitmenttomanufacturing in theU.S., and supportsfairtrade practices globally.
