FINNFIX® carboxymethyl cellulose is a highly-purified, cold water soluble polymer derived from cellulose. Cellulose is the second most abundant polymer in the world and can be found in almost all plant material. Cellulose polymers are very long molecules that, amongst others, give strength to the plant material. Cellulose itself does not dissolve in water but, after introducing carboxymethyl groups on the cellulose backbone, can be transformed into carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) that is water soluble. Once made water soluble, the polymers exhibit excellent properties in water control.

FINNFIX is a versatile, cost-effective way to add viscosity and obtain water holding. FINNFIX is produced in a wide range of viscosity grades, with resulting flow properties ranging from nearly-Newtonian to pseudoplastic. Depending on the grade, FINNFIX can have either thixotropic or non-thixotropic rheology.

By choosing the right cellulose gum type, the formulator has the ability to achieve the desired rheology for any aqueous system, including suspensions and emulsions. Besides controlling the rheology, CMC is known for its excellent water retaining capacity.
