One of the oldest manufacturing companies in San Diego, dating to the 1920s as The Kelco Company, the plant produces Gellan Gum, Fermentation-Derived Cellulose and Xanthan Gum.
The San Diego plant team provides funding and volunteer time to Outdoor Outreach, an organization that provides mentorship, outdoor activities and education opportunities for kids confronted by poverty, homelessness, gang violence and family dysfunction.
Built in 1977 and expanded multiple times since, the Okmulgee plant makes Gellan and Xanthan Gum for use in food and pharmaceutical products.
The Okmulgee team is committed to helping their community. They donate annually to local charities, community groups and schools, including the Humane Society and non-profit organizations. The plant team also funded a STEM lab at a local school.
Established in 2001 and acquired by CP Kelco in 2006, the Wulian plant produces Diutan Gum, Xanthan Gum and Gellan Gum, key ingredients for use in the global food, beverage and energy industries.
Since 2018, the Wulian site has been a sponsor of Shanghai Young Bakers, an organization that provides a one-year high-quality training in baking and pastry preparation, free of charge, to disadvantaged Chinese youths.
CP Kelco’s newest facility, completed in 2016, produces Citrus Fiber, which provides structure and stability in food and non-food applications while meeting clean label requirements.
The Matão plant, in partnership with the nearby Limeira site, supports Habitat for Humanity, working to develop small renovation projects in the homes of the most vulnerable population in the local community.
Opened in 1954 and acquired in 1997, the Limeira plant produces Pectin, which is used as a gelling agent, viscosity builder and stabilizer in food and beverage products.
The Limeira team works with Junior Achievement to help prepare young people for the job market and provides monthly monetary assistance to a local organization dedicated to the development and rehabilitation of children with intellectual and/or physical disabilities. Limeira is also a supporter of Habitat for Humanity Brazil.
CP Kelco’s Großenbrode plant has been one of our company’s main producers of pectin since it was first developed in 1948. The production process starts with raw citrus peel material primarily from our Matão plant in Brazil. We use a patented peel process to extract the pectin and the leftovers are turned into fertilizer and cattle feed for local farmers. Additionally, we use sugar beet pulp to make a specialty pectin. Our pectin is supplied to manufacturers globally, with applications from food and beverages to vitamin supplements, personal care, cosmetics, bandages, medical supplies and pharmaceutical needs.
We, CP Kelco, hereby notify our customers in Germany which are deemed to be end customers in accordance with German Packaging Act (VerpackG) that we are taking back packaging in accordance with § 15 Para 1 German Packaging Act (VerpackG).
CP Kelco’s Großenbrode plant strives to operate in a way that minimizes its environmental footprint, prioritizes employee safety and acts as a good neighbor to the surrounding community. Großenbrode’s environmental commitment is evident through its eco-friendly practices. ‘Sludge’ from its wastewater treatment plant serves dual purpose for enriching farmland, and biogas is processed to generate electricity and steam. The plant also recently installed photovoltaic panels on their warehouse roofs to generate additional electricity.
Großenbrode’s active community involvement, reflects its deep commitment to social responsibility and philanthropy. This includes participating in initiatives like the Deutsche Knochenmarkspenderdatei Bone Marrow Donor Center (DKMS) blood drive for leukemia, organizing a “Social Day” for students to raise money for special projects, making contributions to local causes like first responders, children and animal rescue and attending career fairs to encourage students to learn more about our company and become a part of our apprenticeship and internship programs.
Among its many certifications, the plant has achieved ISO 14001 certification, the international standard for designing and implementing an environmental management system. This certification requires Großenbrode to consider all environmental issues relevant to its operation, have proper procedures in place to measure and manage their impact and continually improve approaches to tackle these issues. In addition, the plant achieved zero waste-to-landfill* status in 2020.
*Zero waste is defined as >90% waste diversion from landfill.
