KELCOGEL® CG gellan gum can be used to formulate novel
active ingredient delivery systems, including self lubricated and easy-to-swallow
oral dosage gels and coated tablets to provide tablet disintegration and
controlled release of actives.
The gelling properties of gellan gum, especially the ability to gel with
any cation, provide an opportunity to produce a unique oral delivery system.
Gellan gum gels are easy to process and contain low gum concentration.
Compatible with most additives, the moist, jelly-like texture of gellan
gum provides a self-standing, easy-to-swallow, oral dosage forms with
taste-masking possibilities.
KELTROL® CG and XANTURAL® xanthan gum swells
in gastric fluid to produce a highly viscous layer around the tablet through
which the drug must diffuse. This property makes xanthan gum a useful
ingredient for controlled and sustained release applications.
Pectin is extensively used as a component in the adhesive barrier wafer
of ostomy rings, and in ostomy pastes and fillers. In these applications
the water binding effect and the ability to adhere to moist surfaces are
utilized. Pectin is further said to be non-irritating in contact with
the skin, and certain bactericidal and wound healing effects have even
been suggested.
Stable in acid environments, GENU® pectin is useful for applications
where colonic drug delivery is desired, as well as to stabilize and suspend
pharmaceutical ingredients in acidic environments.
