![]() ![]() CP Kelco ApS is located in Lille Skensved, 40 km south of Copenhagen, Denmark. The plant is the largest of its kind in the world and it produces pectin, carrageenan and refined locust bean gum. For pectin we use dried citrus peels, particular seaweed species for carrageenan and locust beans for the refined locust bean gum. Raw materials are shipped in from all over the world for extraction, purification and standardization in our highly automated processes, and more than 95% of the production is exported. Farmers around the country use the by-product from the pectin production as cattle feed supplement and the residue from carrageenan production is used as fertilizer. The plant operates 365 days a years and it now covers an area of 174,000m2 (43 acres) after frequent expansions from 1,200m2 (0.3 acres) in 1948.

Community and EnvironmentThe mutual interaction with the community has always received high attention. CP Kelco is important to the local community, since much of the work force lives in the surrounding area, and the company is dependent on a positive image in order to attract a skilled and motivated work force. The company, therefore, began implementing measures to limit noise and other forms of pollution long before the era of environmental concern. As a consequence, the company operates its own wastewater treatment plant on the premises along with other utilities like a highly efficient and versatile power plant. Safety is high on the list of priorities and large sums have been invested in safety over the last decades. Safety Procedures for Contractors working on CP Kelco, Skensved Green Account 2006
